The feature
named Jump list was introduced in Windows 7 that was a helpful feature for
every user that helps you to directly jump over to documents pictures, songs,
or websites you turn to each day. You can easily access the jump list just by
using the right click on any program available on the taskbar.
The jump
list depends on the type of the program. For instance if we take the example of
internet explorer, then you will find the list of the websites that you visit
frequently is added in the jump list. Whereas if you try using jump list on
Windows media player, you will find the most played media files are present in
the jump list. Moreover Jump Lists not only shows shortcuts to files; sometimes
they also provide quick access to commands for things like composing new email
messages or playing music.
Though you
will be thinking that why you need separators in the jump list when you have
separators present in the jump list of every program? For instance you could
see it yourself that a jump list of Firefox are categorized in pinned, frequent
and task. But wouldn’t it be better to categorize it yourself while pinning
files, folders or applications to Windows 7 super bar? (Screenshot below)
To insert a
separator in jump list, create a folder and named it as 36 underscores. ‘____________________________________’
for your convenience you can directly copy the underscore from here only. After
creating the folder, open the properties and select customize tab and change
the icon of the folder.
You have to
select the blank icon and click OK. After selecting OK in the dialogue box of
Properties the changes will get saved and it will start appearing in the jump
list. Then drag the folder and drop it to the Windows Explorer icon in taskbar
to Pin it. You can drop it to any position to use it as a separator. Those 36
underscores will act as a separator in the jump list.
